We worked in Deptford telling stories, creating poems and reflecting on life in Deptford. Individuals and community groups in Evelyn Ward worked with storyteller Richard Neville. The sessions were hosted by local community organisation the SSLC (Somali and Somaliland Lewisham Community). As we talked about life and told stories, we realised that the idea of Praise Poetry is a concept that crosses cultures. From Africa to Ireland, people have expressed their feelings about places and people in the form of Praise Poetry. We created a series of Praise Poems about contemporary life and brought them together with comments and stories. A Their Past Your Future project.
